Housing Benefit Specialist

The Council is looking to recruit an experienced Benefits professional to support the Benefits team in the delivery of an effective service to the residents.

It is essential that the candidate has a thorough understanding of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction legislation and case law with a focus on the more complex cases e.g. supported accommodation, persons from abroad.  You must have a good understanding of overpayment coding and the allocation of subsidy as you will be required to assist with the annual subsidy audit, and provide training to officers if required.

The post is offered on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week and home-based working will be considered for this position.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide information, advice and instruction in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.

Salary range / grade: Scale 6 – Senior Officer Grade 1 (from £25,927 per annum) (Relocation package available)
