Revenues and Benefits as part of the wider Resident and Business Support Service provides vital services to the Council in the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, and the assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
The service is looking to target and improve collections for both council tax and business rates and is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to the role of Investigator.
The Revenues and Benefits service is a growing and fulfilling service area, with lots of potential for a long term career within the service or the council.
In line with the Council’s values and as part of a busy and fast moving environment, the successful candidate will investigate and inspect both domestic and commercial properties within the Middlesbrough area with a key focus on empty properties in particular long-term empty properties. The role will involve some virtual and on-site home visits to determine eligibility for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction/and other discounts.
The role will involve travelling within the Middlesbrough area and falls under essential car user. As such, access to a car is required to fulfil this role.
You will have a good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent, be able to build excellent relationships with a strong focus on team work, be well organised, and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Our staff are able to work alone, self-manage and work well as part of a bigger team. We are looking for an approachable candidate with a ‘can do’ attitude, who is highly motivated with a flexible approach to working hours.
Due to the nature of the work, previous experience in either Revenues and/or Benefits is essential. Full training will be given to the successful applicant.
