Revenue & Benefit Officer/ Senior Officer—based in the Benefits & Welfare Team

The role mainly involves assessing all types of new claims and changes in circumstances including Housing Benefits, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments and Council Tax Discretionary Discounts and Exceptional Hardship, in accordance with legislation, guidance, best practice and local policy. You will carry out any corresponding Council Tax amendments to ensure the account reflects the correct position and instalments are profiled to maximise collection. You will also process any work received from Government data sharing, quality or performance initiatives.

The ideal candidate:

 

  • Will have a good standard of numeracy and English literacy skills.
  • Will have experience of working in a Revenue & Benefit or debt recovery setting (those applying for a senior role will need a comprehensive working knowledge of Revenue & Benefit legislation, working practises and procedures)
  • Will either have a qualification from IRRV at technician level or willingness to achieve it.
  • Will have the ability to interpret and keep up to date with complex legislation in relation to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support administration and recovery
  • Is able to remain calm and work well under pressure.
  • Will show demonstratable customer care and communication skills both verbally and written with the ability to adapt to any given audience.
  • Will be self-motivated and aspire to make a difference.
  • Will take ownership of the time you spend with us and truly make a difference.

Salary range / grade: Officer Grade 14-16 SCP 7-12 starting £22,639 to £24,496 (pay award pending) ......... Senior Officer Grade 17-18 SCP 13-17 starting £24,948 to £26,845(pay award pending)
