Our Revenues and Benefits Service is critical to our future success as it facilitates the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, as well as the assessment of benefit claims, ensuring that we achieve positive outcomes, in a sensitive way.

In these roles, one of which will be primarily dealing with Business Rates, and the other dealing with Council Tax and overpaid Housing Benefit, you will help manage a large team which is responsible for the recovery of all three debt streams and although you will specialise, you will be expected to have a good level of knowledge of all three . You will help inspire and encourage your team towards achieving excellent collection rates for the Authority as well as the highest levels of customer service.

We are looking for applicants with a wide range of skills and experience, with a proven track record of supervising a debt recovery team, and of being able to train and motivate the team to have difficult conversations with debtors, to establish the reasons for non-payment, and to take the most recovery appropriate action, given their circumstances.

Experience and detailed knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates collection and enforcement legislation, as well as detailed knowledge of Business Rates billing are essential to be successful in these roles.

Ideally, you will have an IRRV qualification, or equivalent experience, as well as GCSE English and Maths, to be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will set high standards and see that they’re delivered on, and you will manage formal complaints and resolve issues efficiently. You will be highly skilled in multi-tasking, as well as working in a fast-paced debt collection environment, as there will be a wide variety of demands upon your time and energy, and a very diverse customer base.

You will bring with you fresh ideas for innovation to help move the team forward to deal with the challenges faced by our residents and businesses in the current economic climate.

As a Revenues Team Leader, you will be expected to represent the Authority as a Court Officer and will present evidence in the Magistrates Court for cases of non-payment of Council Tax and Business Rates, and will defend the Council’s position on the collection and enforcement of these debts.

Salary range / grade: £34,629 to £37,782 per annum pro rata

Hours: Hours: 37 per week Location: Working from home and any CBC offices, including Priory House, Shefford. You will be expected to attend a CBC office location on a monthly basis, and as needed to carry out your role Contract Type:  Hybrid - Permanent
