What does a Technical Control Officer do at Hillingdon?

The role takes responsibility for providing an accurate and quality technical service to the Revenues & Benefits Team. Ensuring claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction are assessed and paid accurately the role supports Senior Officers in all aspects of the subsidy function.

Conducting accuracy checks and completing workbooks, the Technical Control Officer works in collaboration with with external auditors to deliver the final audit claims. In addition, the role creates system reports, whilst ensuring subsidy processes are carried out correctly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake completion of subsidy workbooks including detailed manual calculations
  • Assist the Team Leader to manage & investigate Benefit subsidy claim issues arising from external and internal audits and ensure recommendations are implemented
  • Carry out quality assurance checks on the Housing Benefits, Council Tax reduction
  • Undertake Quality Checks of randomly sampled and targeted work for the Service. Reporting the findings of individual checks to the appropriate team leader, giving advice on amendments and improvements as necessary

About you

We are looking for an ambitious, confident, and reliable person who wants to develop their skills and work in our Revenues and Benefits Technical Control Team. We are specifically looking for a Technical Control Officer with Benefits and Subsidy knowledge.

Evidencing a background within a Benefits environment (Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction), you’ll be able to demonstrate the ability to enforce complex legislation and be able to communicate their findings to others.

To be considered for this role you must be able to evidence the following skills/ experience:

  • Experience and knowledge of Housing Benefit Regulation, Benefits Legislation, Benefits Subsidy
  • Analysing complex financial data, undertaking detailed financial calculations
  • Knowledge of Housing Benefit subsidy rules and classifications
  • Undertaking quality assurance activities on benefit assessments and overpayment
