The Autumn Statement announced the intention to exempt Housing Costs for those in Supported Exempt Accommodation from the benefits cap. The claimants living in such accommodation are not exempt…but the reality is that they will not now be affected (or are most unlikely to be).

The intended DHP funding will be reduced by £10 million per year.

The Cap regulations will now need to be amended.

This of course fits in with the decision not to include this group with Universial Credit…but had NOT been announced before.

It was puzzling us…how the cap fitted with the subsidy regime for exempt.

Will providers try to argue their accommodation is exempt? It makes great sense to do so ..no cap, no UC, direct payment to continue.
