Under occupancy/bedroom tax…..the Courts intervene

The Court of Appeal has today held, in relation to two cases relating to a severely disabled child requiring overnight care and a female victim of serious violence that the application of the bedroom tax constitutes unlawful discrimination that cannot be justified. The Department for Work and Pensions said it would appeal to the supreme court against the ruling, meaning there will be no immediate changes to policy. It said the high court had previously ruled that the policy did not unlawfully discriminate against any of the claimants. So nothing much will happen in the short-term.
