HBINFO is delighted to offer a workshop day on appeal submissions…both First tier and Valuation.
Our training is designed to help delegates understand key aspects of the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support (CTRS) Discount systems. We always include plenty of exercises and real live case examples within the day. Learning should always be fun!
This course is designed for newer, less experienced appeals officers as well as more experienced officers who would like to shake off their bad habits and get back to basics (and learn more about valuation tribunal issues). The course is structured as a step-by-step guide to writing a high quality submission for both the first-tier Tribunal and valuation tribunals.
The programme will include:
- Basic principles
- Why a submission is required
- The audience
- The key roles of decision maker, submission writer and presenting officer
- Impartiality: acting as a “friend of the Tribunal”
- Valuation tribunal; a different position
- The elements of the submission
- The traditional seven-section lay-out
- Good practice at all seven stages
- Case study: build a submission for an appeal
- Jurisdiction
- Time limits
- Affecting the claimant
- Affecting the “respondent” (i.e. the Council)
- Specimens and templates
- The delegate pack will include off-the-shelf submissions on frequently appealed subjects
- These will be based on real cases in which the course presenter was complimented by the Tribunal for the quality of the submission
Fee: £240 members, £340 for non HBINFO members. Book three places on the same day, get a fourth place free. This fee covers all training materials.
