HBINFO is delighted to offer this training day; this follows continued criticism of local authority staff by Upper Tribunal judges (the latest by Judge Levenson in August 2010 in CH/2267/2009). This is suitable for experienced appeals and presenting officers of all experience.
The programme will include the following
By the end of the course delegates will know how to:
Build a high-quality response to the First-tier Tribunal, and in particular how to rely on case law when setting out a position
Present the case in a professional and unbiased way
Understand the need for a flexible approach and how to consider the position taken by other parties
Identify errors of law in a First-tier Tribunal’s Statement of Reasons
Prepare an application for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal
Respond to another party’s grounds for appeal to the Upper Tribunal
Provide comments or further submissions in response to directions from a Judge of the Upper Tribunal
Know how to conduct themselves at an oral hearing in the Upper Tribunal
As well as a number of presentations and practical exercises, the day will specifically include the latest legislation and case law updates. Detailed notes, slides and exercises are included.
Fee: £240 for HBINFO members, £340 for non-HBINFO members. Book three places, get a fourth place free (free places may be carried forward and used on any subsequent HBINFO training event).
This covers refreshments, lunch and all training materials.
About the presenter:
Peter de la Mothe has nearly 40 years experience in the Housing Benefit field and brings a wealth of experience in dealing with overpayments to this course. He is a regular writer and consultant on Housing Benefit issues.
