Hbinfo is delighted to offer this course which looks at the basics of appeals for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.  This course is ideal for Assessors (whether new, or seeking a refresher), Team Leaders and Quality Assurance officers.  The day to day practicalities of appeals are considered as is the relevance and application of the regulations, case law and the decisions of Upper Tribunal Judges.

Times 9.30 am to 1.15 pm (approx.)

This half day looks at the appeals and review system (including discretionary hardship payment reviews) up to but excluding the appeals pack and presentation at Tribunal and Valuation Tribunal. It considers concepts such as evidence, fact and applying them to the law.

The programme will include:

Understanding the appeals system, who can appeal, out of time and jurisdiction appeals, dealing with appeals, the rights of claimants and landlords, tripartite and quad appeals. The most common appeals (such as overpayments, income and capital, contrived tenancies, service charges etc) will be discussed in some detail.
