Universal Credit roll out….single claimants, housing costs and the impact on local authorities

This course is being run in house.

The Government announced:

“national expansion will progress from February 2015 to all remaining Jobcentres and Local Authorities for new single claimants previously eligible for Jobseekers Allowance, including those with existing Housing Benefit and Tax Credit claims”.

The emphasis of the day will be on practical applications with the regulations and the many changes being made almost daily a key focus. The idea is to provide delegates with sufficient information to allow them to understand the scheme, stop duplication of payment and enable staff to advise the public, landlords, Councillors and others interested and affected by the roll out.

This full one day course will look in detail at all the key issues:

  • Eligibility
  • Exemptions (including “specified accommodation”)
  • Calculation of entitlement (with emphasis on single claimants)
  • Housing elements
  • Income and capital
  • Conditionality and impact of sanctions
  • Payment and landlord issues
  • Impact on Council Tax Support
  • Local and national delivery
  • Administration and other key areas

The programme is subject to change / late addition simply because so much is going on at the moment with Universal Credit!
