how can he nor know for 5 years he is entitled to a pension??
that aside, I think the lump sum is capital and the actual pension amounts of 7k are income for the period they cover – so 7k less tax since 2012.
Think the capital only applied from when he received it though, if he didnt know it existed, ihe couldnt have got it before.
