    Quick question

If a claimant’s parents were paying school fees for her children (£33000 per year) would these be diregarded as voluntary payments?

    thanks, Nick

Voluntary payments are a type of income, so no. An expensive school they’re going to – no wonder they’ve claimed HB!

    Here I go arguing again,

Q1 – who is LIABLE to make the payments? If grandad & granny the question as to income does not arise.

Not sure what the provisions are under the new regs (I do think they are there though!)

Under the old regs Sch4.13(2) I do think they would be disregarded if your claimant were liable.

The payments are voluntary (unless granmama & granpapa have some sort of a levy on the kids’ future income!).

School fees are not in the categories excluded by para.3. The payments are regular (linked to the academic year).

Just out of interest & on to important matters – Ospreys or Scarlets?
