I have a couple both in receipt of Attendance Allowance and care for each other (overlapping benefit). Can they have 2 x SDP and 2 x carers premium or 1 x SDP and 2 x carers.

This is a bit simplistic but hope it fits the situation.
If they both qualify for the SDP then they get it x 2.
If they get CA then they lose this premium.

However if they have an underlying entitlement to the Carer’s Premium then they can get SDP x2 and Carer’s premium x 2
This is because they get the SDP because of the qualifying benefit, and they only loose it if CA is being paid.
But they get the Carer’s Premium because of underlying entitlement to it, and that underlying entitlement does not affect their right to 2 x SDP.

    Hope this helps 8)

Thanks Jon, that is wanted I wanted to hear.

DWP have only given 2 x SDP and 1 x carer
Our Academy system is not recognising this (with AA in AIF or outside of AIF) Happy days

Just looking at this again, there would have to be an underlying entitlement to Carer’s Allowance for both to get Carer’s Premium x2.

If only one had the underlying entitlement to CA then the DWP would be quite correct 8)
